“It's time to trust teachers with the Internet” NETS-T: III, VI
Schaffhauser, D. (2010, December 01). The journal. Retrieved from http://thejournal.com/articles/2010/12/01/its-time-to-trust-teachers-with-the-internet-a-conversation-with-meg-ormiston.aspx?sc_lang=en
Summary: The article presents a good argument of how schools are affecting the technology education of children. The article is an interview with Meg Ormiston , a presenter of good use of technology in classrooms. The main idea presented is that schools block the internet with the purpose of safety but same time teacher-resources are block. A good example of sites is YouTube, Ormiston mentions that can be bad but mostly can be useful to teach. Ormiston mentions that is necessary for administrators to educate themselves in why is useful not to block internet at schools. Also teachers need to go and explore outside of the classroom websites to later present them why they will be part of their curriculum. Finally, Orminston mentions that blocking websites is not good because students are going to their homes and using the internet without being taught about safety at school.
Q1: What other websites can be use in the classroom?
A1: Another websites useful for classroom purposes is Diigo a bookmarking site where can find interesting and useful websites. Yahoo can also be helpful because you can find news from all over the world in it, or any other site that has news to help students see the outside world.
Q2: How is a way to educate students and teachers in a low-income district?
A2: It might seem impossible to have any kind of technology in these types of districts. However I think there are grants and people to who you might ask for support. I have heard that you can ask for grants by staying the reasons of how it will help students and how they will help in the future. Also is important to attend the district meetings because that way parents and teachers can demand for more money in order to help the children’s education.

“Join the Flock” and “Enhance Your Twitter Experience” NETS-T V
Ferguson, H. (2010). Join the flock!. Learning and Leading with Technology, 37(8), Retrieved from http://www.iste.org/learn/publications/learning-and-leading/digital-edition-june-july-2010.aspx
McClintock Miller, S. (2010). Enhance your twitter experience. Learning and Leading with Technology, 37(8), Retrieved from http://www.iste.org/learn/publications/learning-and-leading/digital-edition-june-july-2010.aspx
Summary: The first article “Join The Flock” talks about how to start working with twitter. The article presents all the information that you need to know on how to use in an educational way twitter in seven easy sections. It mainly explains step by step what to do next and how to gather information from it. Now, I can understand why people think twitter is a good educational tool, teachers can learn from people all around the world. Mainly, it mentions how to start your personal learning networks (PLN)
The second article talks about how to the author has help having a twitter account. How her students got to know more about Web 2.0 by a person from New Zealand. By this it demonstrates how people from all around the world can cooperate in a same tweet and express their knowledge when it will never be possible without internet. It also talks about saving the information that is important for you because tweets disappear behind more tweets fast. I think is a good thing to be able and save good tweets because it will not be good to have something amazing for a few minutes, and lost it again in the world.
Q1. How teachers can use Twitter for their lessons?
A1. Twitter is a connection of social network all over the world where you can express you knowledge, questions, concerns, and much more. It can be use for lessons because you can ask a question about a topic and people from all around the world is going to provide their ideas. It is a way in which teachers can use ideas from other educators and to identify new ways in which students will learn better.
Q2. Why you need hash tags?
The hash tags are to make your tweet go to more people. In order for it to work you use the # sing before the name of the group you follow and it will be posted for everyone else that follows that group but not you. It is also a way to get more opinions, ideas and knowledge from the world.

“Do Web 2.0 Right” NETS-T I,II,III,
Light, D. (2011). Do web 2.0 Right. Learning and Leading with Technology, 38(5), Retrieved from http://www.iste.org/learn/publications/learning-and-leading/digital-edition-february-march-2011.aspx
Summary: Daniel Light presents in his article how teachers are using Web 2.0 tools in their classrooms. He explains how are some effective ways and some ineffective to what teachers in his interview told him. The interviews took place in 22 schools to 39 teachers all over the country. The article present to us the information in different parts starting by how is more effective to use them, to what audience present it, and how to teach students to have a good behavior while using them. Some types of web 2.0 tools are blogs and wikis. Daniel mention that for teachers is important what the students think about the blog, some had succeeded others doesn’t. the main reasons is because students are mainly concern of what they are writing and who is going to see it, students participated more if it was a private blog and with debate. The audience needs to be pick correctly because many times student write personal things that do not want to share, is important to ask students if they allow their publication to become public. In the article is also mention how teachers work to make it possible to have a supportive and encouraging environment both on and offline. The teachers worried it might affect the student’s relationship that is why they needed to make sure students were able to deal with other classmates ideas. The whole article is helpful because I can understand more ways to use Web 2.0 in my classroom and in what ways not to use it.
Q1. What do I do if the students do not participate in the blog?
A1. Students might feel embarrass to shared their personal information in the web because they do not want other people reading it. Like mention in the article ask students if they want to have a public blog. If they continue to participate might be they are not into that type of communication or teacher need to improve the ways is using the tools.
Q2. How can a teacher learn how to use Web 2.0 tools?
A1. The easiest way is to ask colleagues if they have use and if can help. Also as mention on other L&L articles the use of the web to search for ideas is awesome, one can be twitter where people from all around the globe and with different ideas and knowledge can help. If the desire to integrate technology in the classroom is everything can be done learn how to use it.

Technology Self-Assessment: School 2.0
The section that i choose to investigate is "NETS-T Module: Facilitate and Inspire Students Learning and Creativity" number 1. In this section I watched a video of creativity in schools by Ken Robinson. The reason I decided to explore this part of NETS is because I want to learn more about creativity and how it help students. Another reason is because I am not a creative person and want to be able to be creative when I have my classroom.
In the video I learn why many times students in high school are no longer creative, and how it is related to their early teachers. an important thing that i learn in the video that i really like is when he mentions " If your are not prepared to be wrong, you will never come up with anything original." True is presented in this statement because everything that has being created needed creativity and was set to be wrong or right.
The way the video presents that school kills creativity is understandable. It is easy to understand because it mentions how schools are created to only enforce in children academic subjects like math and English. when a student wants to be moving or drawing schools say they have a disease like autism, when in reality they want to be creative in different ways.
The video help open my eyes to what schools can do to creativity in children.
The assignment helped me see what were my skills in technology and it provides resources to improve in the ones you do not score well. I cut it and post it to my blog, with a reflection from one of the resources I read. NETS-T: IV

Know me....
I am Miriam Vidaurri a junior(I think so??). I am from Mexico born and part raised over there. When I was 12th my family moved to the Coachella Valley (Palm Spring area, but the poor part..:). . I believe I am fortune to be here because I have value more what I have. Also with my education I want to change things that affect my Latino community. My family consists of my parents, 2 sons, and 3 daughters. I am the oldest of the daughters, but the second of the siblings. I attended elementary school in Mexico, and Middle and High school in the US. I attended Toro Canyon Middle School and Desert Mirage High School located in the middle of nowhere and surround just by vegetables fields and grape fields. During High School my main focus was to learn as much English as I could and Graduate, college was far away from my goals. I do not how but by the summer of 2008 I was here in CSUSM, just 2 months after high school graduation. Now, I am in my third year pursuing a career as an Elementary teacher. I work as a tutor at Vista High School. Life has been full of challenges but I keep going and hope to one day have my dream classroom.
Technology!!! I love it because it is a useful way to keep me in touch with my family. However I am nothing near expert in technology. I hate that it is super complicated and that every minute is becoming more and more..... Let me Breath!!!... I want to know more about all the tricks in tech. in the future I want to be able to use technology in my classroom in the best way to benefit my students because I think they are going to know more than me..LOL.. The class is going to help me accomplish this goal.. well I hope so :)
The last part of the mission statement is powerful it attracts what I really stand for. I like how is dedicated to improve, education by creating a diverse teacher, professional, decided to collaborate, and center towards education. The statement really touches me because it presents the believes I have as a future teacher for education.
